Here, in the heart of the South-West, respect for the environment and sustainable development are not empty words. On the contrary, they are a true guiding principle for our company, as our interests are also those of the planet. Lucien Georgelin is committed to a truly responsible approach in the daily running of the business.
Local employment, development of agricultural land, commitment to saving endangered fruit and vegetable sectors, recycling of waste, etc. Every action taken aims at one objective: to offer delicious and healthy products.
Our Commitments
Local Anchoring
The family business Lucien Georgelin employs nearly 250 permanent employees at its Virazeil site. During peak seasons, the workforce can rise to 350 employees. Despite numerous offers to move production abroad, Lucien Georgelin has always defended its territory, its France. In Lot-et-Garonne, we are among the largest employers.
Local employment is both an economic and social challenge. We rely on local subcontractors for tasks such as machine maintenance, purchasing materials and supplies, or expansion works. We strive in every way to enhance the wealth of our department.
The Orchards of the 47
In 2019, Lucien Georgelin acquired over 100 hectares of orchards in Tourtrès, Lot-et-Garonne, which he named Les Vergers du 47. Located just 15 km from our Virazeil workshops, these lands now serve as both a showcase and a laboratory. Ancient fruit varieties are planted here, such as the pink apple, vineyard peach, pig plum, and Bordeaux fig. The goal is to reintroduce locally extinct fruit species with exceptional flavors and reduce our carbon footprint.
Through this experimental orchard, Lucien Georgelin aims to demonstrate various cultivation techniques to producers, enabling them to make the best choices for optimizing their operations and improving their livelihoods.
Support for Producers
Lucien Georgelin takes pride in working with producers from his region because he remains a man of the land. In 2016, he embarked on a new venture: reviving the Marmande tomato sector, cultivated in the open field.
This sector is struggling due to the globalization of this market. Only 15% of the national consumption of canned tomatoes comes from French-grown tomatoes. This alarming fact prompted us to take action. By creating a wide range of sauces and products made with Marmande tomatoes, we are supporting 50 regional producers and fostering the development of new agricultural land for field-grown tomato cultivation.
